We're are seeking a passionate and experienced Policy and Advocacy Advisor to join our team. The application deadline has been extended to Wednesday, September 13, 2023.
Policy and Advocacy are a cornerstone of the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce, and our in-house policy/advocacy lead helps us influence municipal, provincial, and federal decision-making to help grow the local economy. The successful candidate will play a vital role in driving our policy initiatives and advocating for the interests of our diverse and vibrant business community.

The Hamilton Immigration Partnership Council (HIPC) invites organizations in Hamilton to participate in Welcoming Week 2023 throughout September but especially September 8 to 17.
Welcoming Week is an occasion to welcome newcomers and convey our hospitality through cultural and celebratory events, sports activities, or other fun events that provide opportunities for quality interactions between newcomers and long-time residents. It is an annual opportunity to recognize and celebrate the people, places and values that help everyone feel welcome and that they belong in their local community, no matter where they come from.
HIPC is planning two activities to mark Welcoming Week, with more details to come:

Request for Grant Proposals: Demand-Side Distributed Energy Resources (DERs)
The Atmospheric Fund (TAF) is looking to provide grants to support projects that involve the design, development, and/or demonstration of demand-side distributed energy resources (DERs) in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA).
Proposals are due September 22nd, but TAF is looking to hear from potential applicants by September 1st to discuss their project idea and ensure alignment prior to sending over the application form.
Premier Ford Shuffles Cabinet After Housing Minister Resigns
Ontario Premier Doug Ford reshuffled his cabinet following Housing Minister Steve Clark's resignation amid controversy over Greenbelt land housing selection and an ethics violation by the Integrity Commissioner. Clark, backed by Ford, resigned due to becoming a "distraction" from housing crisis work but remains MPP for Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes.
The Premier later announced changes: Paul Calandra becomes Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing. Caroline Mulroney and Prabmeet Sarkaria switch roles; Mulroney becomes Treasury Board President, and Sarkaria takes over Transportation, addressing project delay issues.
Four Months Left Until the CEBA Repayment Deadline
Four months are left until the CEBA repayment is due on December 31. If the CEBA loan is not repaid by then, small business owners will lose the up to $20,000 forgivable portion and begin paying interest on a much larger loan balance.
CFIB research shows that 19 per cent of all small businesses in Canada—or nearly 250,000 small businesses—could close their doors next year unless the federal government changes the deadline.
Ontario Invests Additional $160M in Skills Development Fund
The Ontario government is investing an additional $160 million in the Skills Development Fund (SDF) to tackle the labour shortage and help at least 100,000 workers get free training to meet the needs of employers hiring in their communities.
The funding will prioritize programs that propose innovative training solutions to help people on social assistance and with prior criminal records find meaningful employment in critical industries like healthcare, auto-manufacturing, information technology, hospitality and the skilled trades.
